The Swing originates from 1920’s when it was invented in Savoy Ballroom, New York. The dance music is an amalgamation of Jazz and Blues where the dancers are grooving to instruments like drums, saxophones, pianos, and a guitar. The dance is characterized by combination of kicks and smooth hip swing in the center of the floor with the three types of steps that include single, double and triple.
There are a few different styles to Swing - the one called the West Coast Swing which is a spot dance characterized by relaxed and shuffling movement, and the Coaster step which is one of the signature steps used most often by followers in West Coast Swing.
